The Scientific Programme was superb but perhaps insufficient attention was given to sharing of the emotional aspects of retinal degeneration. Two papers were: "Coping with RP", by your editor. A copy of this is available on request. This paper elicited numerous emotional responses and a plea to ophthalmologists for a more caring attitude when diagnosing retinal degeneration; Virginia Duff, from Canada, explored the steps of grieving and cautioned patients of the dangers of denial.
